A Goodbye (Microfiction)

The envelope lies empty on her desk.

She stands outside, the last shreds of memory torn to pieces, the ashes in her hands. Snatched away by the wind, the dust is lost to the skies. Goodbye, she whispers. The tears fall anyway.

You always said I mattered. But since when did the world ever care about something as small as me?
