Pyramidion (Poetry)

Photo by Nour Wageh

Here I stand at the pyramidion,
carefully balanced atop the structure, and from this place
I see the ruins of civilization long gone. I see the rising sun at dawn.

Here I have the gaze of an eagle;
atop the world I have taken to claim as my own,
I sit atop my throne, so royal and regal,
and yet when I look up I am still so far from the stars.
And yet when I look to see what I have won I only find more scars.
