Strangers (Poetry)
just yet another random passerby, the dimmest star right at the edge
of the night sky, almost fading away into the light of the horizon,
she shines for all to see. but all that everyone is looking for
is the meteor that flies so high in the sky above, the one
that will crash, someday, into the ground.
and we wonder what the world might be, the places
on this unfurled map of the universe, plotting out points
in this expanse we can never fully explore—we can only glimpse a hint
of something, we hear the thunder but we never see the lightning.
we are all interconnected in a world we will never know, to a past
all of us share and to different histories that we do not
and even if we’ll never really see what isn’t there
we still dream on as if our figments
of imagination can make up
for all there is that we don’t know.
and yet sometimes we forget the stars
right beside us, the neighbors so small and also
part of this vast unknown, that we are also apart of,
this magical space where it doesn’t matter if the rest of the universe
knows us because to know that we are here is enough.
and we whisper to all the strangers we may or may not have known,
perhaps the difference between fantasy and reality is smaller than we think.

Author's Note: I was looking through some old poetry, and I decided to edit this one from a few months back! I revised a lot, but it's definitely more similar to my style back then than my style now.
