Tectonic Morning (Poetry)
Dawn slips up your spine, cracking
as the new pines root themselves
into your bones. Your skin rifts
& summer finds a creek flowing
between your shoulder blades.
Magma swirls with hunger in your
stomach & the plates converge
into mountains that reach higher
than the clouds. The rumbling
of an earthquake rolls itself across
the sea of your body while the world
pulls off the covers & shakes you
until you’re awake.
