Amongst Rainbows (Microfiction)

Amongst faded silk we run, dancing on slivers of light; our souls fly with us, carefree, careless. Warnings once heeded now forgotten, unimaginable danger a normality. Amid the colors we forget the darkness that lies below.

Only when another falls do we mourn, our tears falling endlessly; only then do we remember that all light must someday fade to black. Our steps are careful now, cautious: another goodbye, we walk a thin line between life and death, we remember why we are here.

But it is too soon when we run again; memories fading to dust yet another time.
